Neoromas

A neuroma is a nodule on nerve in the foot which becomes inflamed. The most common location is the area behind the third or fourth toes. The symptoms are burning pain, shooting pains or aching which goes away when the patient removes his or her shoes and massages the feet. There are tests that can be taken which will pinpoint the presence of a neuroma. There are also new and very effective treatments for this condition. One treatment is a series of injections using a micro thin needle. A small amount of 4% alcohol mixed with local anesthetic is injected. Another treatment is an injection of Sarapin which is derived from the Piper Plant. Very often one to three injections given weekly will eliminate all of the painful symptoms. With these new treatments it is rare that a patient will need to have surgery to remove the neuroma.
