Heel Pain
There are many causes of heel pain. One of the most common causes is called Plantar Fasciitis This is an inflammation of the band of tendon that attaches the heel bone to the metatarsals in front of the foot. Most patients will say that the pain is worse when they first start to walk when getting out of bed in the morning or after sitting at work. The most common causes of plantar fasciitis are foot imbalances. Walking with these imbalances is similar to driving a car with one tire deflated. Eventually the car will break down.
At our office we treat heel pain in multiple ways. First of all, we take x-rays to evaluate the foot and do other important tests. If the pain is very severe we might opt to try some injections of local anesthetic mixed with a small amount of cortisone. We also use a natural remedy called Sarapin which takes the place of cortisone. We use micro needles so the discomfort is minimal. In most cases these injections take away most of the pain immediately. This is followed with physical medicine twice a week. If the pain is not severe we might opt to skip the injections and start the therapy twice a week. At our office we have 19 different types of therapy machines and every case requires a different combination. We also use Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy in our office which also enables certain types of heel pain syndromes to heal faster. We also offer custom made orthotics which will remove the cause of the problem and enable the foot to heel. In many cases, properly designed orthotics alone can cure the problem.
